As a former Guardsman, much of my artwork has been influenced by my time earning the Queen’s Shilling. With a trail of BLUE-RED-BLUE running through much of my artwork, for the purpose of this website I’ve collectively called this work my GUARDS COLLECTION.

While my designs were once drawn in pencil or ink with the occasional splash of colour, these days the computer is my go-to tool of choice. In posting my artwork, most will be shown as pure digital images, with some destined to appear on glass as part of a unique collection.

I created APL Graphics in an attempt to promote and protect the integrity of my artwork, in particular my Guards Collection. In the past, all too often there has been instances where my designs or parts thereof have been used, no doubt with good intentions but sadly lacking any mention of their true origin.

As a student of Graphic Communication getting it wrong to get it right for me, is all part of the journey. As I work through problems it’s amazing how often I stumble across solutions having seemingly gone down a road to nowhere. Persistence, belief and the utter delight in seeing an idea unfold is what makes the ride so worthwhile.

The journey continues…..

WG100 (Welsh Guards Centenary)

On introducing my work to the Welsh Guards, I went on to take orders from Regimental Headquarters, the Battalion and the wider Regimental family. With my ideas well and truely on board the Welsh Guards were planning to kick off their Centenary with an official presentation to the Welsh R.F.U. The plan was to present each player and official with a personalised piece of glassware marking the Centenary. The event would take place at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff just prior to kick off of their opening Six Nations International against England with the great and good of Welsh Rugby in attendance.

Graphic art is something I choose to do ultimately for myself. But when such an event comes around I feel obliged to commit to a design and take it further for others to judge.
